Cut Flower Organization & Record Keeping Binder

If you are like me, organization is something you strive for but don’t always have the time to accomplish. I am a huge fan of creating systems that work for my family to keep our life semi-organized. I don’t claim to be the most organized person at all… but I do claim to try HAHA! This year, Caleb and I are going to try our hand at selling some of the gorgeous flowers that we grow in the garden on Lady Slipper Lane. For now, it is just our way of testing the waters, but if it goes well we might consider forming a small flower farm business. Which of course… would be an absolute dream! I tend to dream big… so I am trying really hard to take this in phases and just see where it goes.

Part of our testing the waters has to include some form of record keeping for our cut flower production this year. I am growing everything from seed using my grow light setup which has worked wonderfully for me for many years. My dad is actually the one who suggested keeping really detailed records of what I grow… and I finally decided to listen 🙂

I used a one-inch binder that I can slide a sheet of paper into the front to act as the cover. Honestly, it all hardly fits in this size binder but I really want to have something that is easy to lug around out in the field to make record keeping easy! I also have a “when to cut” cheat sheet slid into the back cover to ensure that I harvest each type of flower at the perfect time to allow for the longest vase life. This information can be found on the back of your seed packets!

I created and printed category pages for each type of flower I am growing that includes the picture and name of each variety. I printed these onto card stock paper and added a little card stock tab using packing tape to each to make it easy to locate each flower. To add the tabs, just be sure to overlap the card stock page and tab paper a little bit when you tape them to add strength and stiffness. Also be sure to cover the entire tab with packing tape and have plenty of overlap onto your page.

Next, I created a page for each variety where I could document what I wanted to keep track of. I will share a link to mine at the bottom of this post, but I encourage you to create your own and edit it as you deem fit. I may not be tracking something that you would like to! I am tracking dates and germination because I am having a hard time finding very much information on cut flower growing in zone 3B where I am located. I also tried to make it quick and easy to fill out the records while still being detailed and specific in case I have any helpers in the garden that want to help with the records.

Lastly, I did make a page to document if we are able to make any sales and what flowers maybe gathered the most attention in this area. In the back pocket of the binder I printed off and stored all of my seed and tuber receipts for the year… again…. just in case this becomes more than a hobby someday 🙂

Access My Cut Flower Record Templates For Free!

I know how hard it is to find things like this for free… without having to provide an email. Honestly, I created this for myself but later thought that others could benefit from it as well, so I want to share it with you as a thank you for supporting my blog. If you are interested in being updated with future posts, please enter your email into the appropriate section at the bottom of this site, otherwise… enjoy this free resource!

Note: The template will look extremely similar… but not the same. I had to edit a few things so that it can be utilized with a free Canva account, and not the paid version! You will need to create a free Canva account (if you don’t already have one) in order to utilize these templates. I will also include a PDF version that you can downloas and print without using Canva, but note that you will not be able to edit anything this way. Please comment below if they work well for you, you have troubles, or if there is anything else you want to share! Thank you! 🙂

*Please note that the first page of the PDF documents includes directions for editing the template using Canva. Please ignore this if you are using the PDF versions. There may also be pages that are not relevant to you, but I wanted you to have access to everything provided on the Canva link, so I chose to keep it included in the PDF. 🙂
