We Are Building a House!

I am so excited to share with you that Caleb and I will be building our dream home this summer! You may or may not have noticed that I haven’t been very active on social media or this website the last couple of months and this is why… hope you can forgive me. We have been busy working with a local architect perfecting our dream home!

We will be building on a small, beautiful lake just outside of town on some property that Caleb’s family has had for years. Both Caleb and his mom grew up out there and we couldn’t be more excited! One of these days soon I will share the view with you all… it’s breath taking. It is also located right next to our camper site (view shown in image above)!

I am going to try to keep you all up to date with the current progress on the house on here as well as on social media. I will have all things house building under the “Home” and “Our Lake Home” categories. Once I have a few posts ready to go I will put a direct link to all lake-home-building posts on the blog’s home page… details that don’t matter right now but might eventually matter if you care to follow along with us in this process!

This is a big thing for us because it will be our forever home! It is the scariest and coolest thing to realize that the choices we make for this property are permanent as long as we want them to be. The house we currently live in (which we love!) has always been seen as a temporary residence because we dream of being in the country!

Let me catch you up quick as to what has been going on behind the scenes so far. We have been working on a floor plan for a little over a year. We had that floor plan drawn up and it came out way larger than we had intended or can likely afford. We revised the plan, simplifying the roof line and cutting out some square footage without losing anything we had in our original plan… we just found a better way to use the space. Caleb made copies of the revised plans and we currently have been sending them around the area for bids and estimates!

Our current plan… which can still be changed haha… is a ranch style home with main floor living and a walkout basement. On the main floor there is the master bedroom and bathroom, a den/office, open concept great room with dining and kitchen, a half bath, and a mud room. Oh… and my walk-in pantry which I am super excited about! The walk-out basement has the possibility of three legal bedrooms (one room will for sure be an office/library for Caleb at first), a full bathroom, family room, utility room, and storage/laundry room.

We have chosen doors, types of siding, type of basement, and style/size of windows so far. Now it really feels like a waiting game while we wait for estimates to come in! I feel like I really need to appreciate the calm here because I feel like there is a storm coming in the form of a lot happening really quickly with lots of decisions to be made… and I can’t wait!
