Flower Pot Planting Designs

This is probably one of my favorite things to plant and watch grow! I have flower pots all over the place! Because we don’t consider this our forever home, I don’t like to plant a bunch of perennials or dig up half the yard… so flower pots work great for me! They are also easy to care for.

I believe I have 22 flower pots that I have planted so far this year. I have flowers in the ground in some places too! Yay gardening! I will share more images with you once they actually start to flower, but for now I will share how I designed my pots!

It’s always fun to have a little bit of dimension when planting. I like to put something taller in the center of the pot, and trailing flowers that spill over the sides are fun fillers! My go-to easy to care for annual flower is the petunia. They are easy to grow from a seedling. I was successful with planting these from seed this year as well! Check out my Seed Starting Guide for all the stuff I started indoors and when! I think the petunia seed date was perfect for this year!

While the majority of my annuals were started from seed, I also purchased a few plants at the local greenhouse. I purchased Begonia, Geranium, Verbena, Vinca Vine, and a few yellow wave petunias. Everything else I grew with my grow lights!

If you have been following along with my gardening journey this year, you know that I am a visual person 🙂 So, I made visuals to describe my flower pot designs!

I am so excited to see these grow and share pictures when they do! A few of the marigold have started flowering and there are quite a few buds! There also was a little purple and white verbena bloom this afternoon!

I like to use either all new potting soil, or at least 50% new potting soil (mixed with 50% soil from previous year). I also use miracle grow once per week. I highly suggest picking a day for fertilizing that makes sense to you… Thirsty Thursday or Miracle Grow Monday have been my go-to options! Always follow the directions on the fertilizer packaging though! Fertilizing too much or too often will result in burning or killing your plants.

I did mention that I plant a lot of flowers in containers, right?! HAHA! What did you plant this year? Any new flowers I should add to my list for next year? Follow along on Facebook or Instagram to watch these buggers grow! I will do my best to keep you up to date!
