Decorating With Dried Hydrangeas

It is finally getting to be one of my favorite times of year… planting and gardening season! I trimmed and raked the leaves out of my town gardens the other day, which gave me the idea for this post!

Hydrangeas are by far one of my favorite landscaping plants. There are so many different varieties, and all of them are stunning! I currently have Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangeas and Incrediball Hydrangeas. I have had fairly good luck growing both varieties and am hoping to add more either this year or once we move!

I trim my hydrangeas down to about a foot every spring. This means I am cutting off numerous beautiful dried flowers from the previous season! A couple of years ago, I started bringing the dried flowers inside and using them to decorate. I particularly like to use them with my fall decorations, but I use them in some locations year round!

I have been using the dried hydrangeas for over a year (except during Christmas season!) as the centerpiece for my dining room table. I thought they filled in the area well around my candle holders. I added some blue burlap for extra color and the slate “live simply” sign to add interest! It’s amazing what you can do with some dried flowers and a little creativity!

I used a couple of dried hydrangeas in my shelf above the love seat in the living room. It always takes me quite awhile to decorate shelves because I don’t like to have the same number of items on each level. Here, I used a couple of the dried flowers on the bottom level in between a couple of lantern style candle holders with candles. The spacing for this level is minimal, making it difficult to find something to fill the space without being too overwhelming. I really feel like the dried flowers add some texture and fill up this space perfectly!

These dried flowers are seriously perfect for fall decorating! The brown and textured look is a perfect “filler” in lots of different spaces. I have used them above my kitchen cabinets and with little pumpkins both indoors and outdoors! I don’t have any pictures of those decorations currently because it is spring, but I will be sure to get some this fall and share all of my fall decorating tips and tricks with you then! Point is…. don’t throw these little beauties out! Consider using them now or saving them for later! 🙂

  1. […] I moved a couple of Incrediball Hydrangeas as a larger plant for the back of the garden and knew that I would like to use as many perennials as possible to keep the garden fairly simple and easy to care for. Incrediball Hydrangeas are awesome and produce huge, sturdy “balls” of tiny white flowers. From my experience, the stems are strong enough so that the flowers don’t sag onto the ground. I also love to use the dried flowers for decorating. […]
