Indoor Seed Starting Guide and Timeline

In my first post ever, I promised to share with you my seeding schedule. This is the first year I am trying it using this schedule, so be sure to follow along on the blog to see updates as to how it’s going. As always, remember to subscribe to make sure you don’t miss anything!

I started my first seeds at the beginning of March. Honestly it may have been a little bit early for most of these… but I was too excited to wait any longer! Below is a chart of the “start indoors” time frames as well as when I actually planted the seeds in the dirt.

By no means is this an all-inclusive list of what I intend to plant. This only includes what I have planted so far! This does, however, include the majority of what I plan to start indoors this year. I did go back and reseed in pods that didn’t grow a couple of weeks after originally planting them. For example if I planted 6 tomato seeds and one didn’t come up, a couple of weeks later I planted a new seed in it’s place.

I generally transplant seedlings and plant the gardens as soon as the forecasted low temperatures are all consistently above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. This is generally sometime in May here in Northern Minnesota. I do usually end up needing to cover them once or twice each spring after planting due to risk of frost. I highly recommend saving old sheets for this! I shared that in my Too Many Tomatoes post, but they work really well so I feel it is worth mentioning again!

I will let you know what other seeds I plan to plant later on when I can be digging in the ground! I’m excited to see how gardening goes this year! Stay tuned, friends! 🙂
