Spider Plants

My very first plant that I had success growing long term was a spider plant. There are many different varieties, but for now let’s keep it simple! In 5th grade, my teacher had a HUGE spider plant in our classroom. For a mother’s day gift, we each got to decorate a cup/pot and plant a cutting from his plant. I was so proud to bring that thing home to my mom!

Since then, that one little cutting has become numerous spider plants that I have in my home, my grandma’s home, and I believe my mom still has hers as well! I feel like this is one of the easiest plants to grow and propagate for beginners. I truly recommend trying it out if you are on the fence about adding houseplants to your life!

I have been growing and propagating spider plants for many years! Please note that the pet/child safety is based on numerous credible sources, but I did not eat the plant or have my dog eat the plant to personally test it. I never recommend eating any plants that are not intentionally grown for eating!

Not all of my spider plants are in pots with holes in the bottom, just be very attentive to this when watering as it isn’t good to overwater any plants! I use Miracle Gro’s indoor houseplant soil for these plants and they seem to do well! I generally don’t fertilize them, but I be sure to transplant when plants begin to outgrow their container and if they start to look stressed I will change out the dirt.

I hope you enjoyed this Plant Feature Friday!
