Dahlia Breeding Record Template

Earlier this year, I shared a beginner’s guide to the basics of dahlia breeding. I am really hoping that some of you have either decided to give this a try, are already dahlia breeding on your farm or in your garden, or are at the very least considering giving it a try in the future. The photo above is another one of my beauties from last summer. I am hoping this one continues to make the cut in the coming seasons because so far I am a fan! I really like the swooping petals and imperfections of the flower as well as the color variability. It wouldn’t likely win any competitions or shows, but I really like it and that’s what is so neat about breeding your own! You can save whatever you want!

I have had a few posts in the last year sharing and discussing record keeping. I am really trying to get more organized and keep better records of my gardening. My hope is that this will help me to not only improve my gardening skills, but also better understand things like growing in my microclimate and learning more about what all I can grow here in zone 3b.

Below is the record keeping template that I designed for keeping track of dahlia breeding varieties (grown originally from seed in my garden). It gives me a guide for the information that I am interested in keeping track of to help determine if I want to keep growing the new variety! Feel free to either print or use Canva to edit my template to suit your needs!
