Lake Home Basement Layout

Today I’d like to share the basement layout with you! There are many rooms down here that we aren’t entirely sure what they will be used for, but I will try to explain a few of our ideas and see what you think! Once again, this isn’t set in stone and is certainly not to scale. It will just hopefully give you a general idea of what our plans are!

Family Room

Having a family room is very important to us. Eventually, we’d like to have kids and we hope that this can be a place that they can hang out with their friends or that we can use for entertaining when people come out to the lake! It is going to be a walkout basement, with the door facing toward the stairs to the beach. We plan to have an outdoor shower right by the door as well for rinsing off after swimming.

This room will have many windows and likely have a couple of TVs. If you read my previous post about our main floor living room, you know that I love having a room without any TVs, but I also really like to have a place with a couple of them. Weird… right? Right now we have two TVs side by side in the basement and honestly it works great for when someone is playing video games and there is a game on or something. Sometimes Caleb will be playing Playstation and I will watch Fixer Upper. It sounds silly but it works really well for us! We have also had football games on while watching a TV show.

Anyway, point is… this is an area to just relax and hang out. It will have a snack bar with a sink, mini fridge, and microwave. Personally, I’m really excited for movie nights in this room!

Bedrooms

There are three potential bedrooms in the layout of the basement. Not all of these will likely ever be used as bedrooms, but we haven’t completely decided what each will be used for yet.

We want a guest room in one of them and I have always loved the look of built-in bunk beds, so I’m hoping that some day one of the bedrooms can be used for those. I want to make it as easy and comfortable as possible for guests to come hang out for the day or stay over.

For now, one of the other two rooms will likely be dedicated to Caleb’s office or library. The other will likely be either a gym or a spot for all of my random hobbies (like my gardening stuff). I recently got a Cricut, so it would be fun to have a dedicated area for those projects, too!

Bathroom

This bathroom will have the only bathtub in the house! It will be used for those coming in from the beach, guests, future kids, and whoever is downstairs at the time. Nothing overly exciting… just a bathroom! haha!

Storage/Laundry

I really wanted to have laundry hook ups downstairs as well as upstairs. I’m not sure which we will use right away, but it’s nice to have the option of either location. I also think it will be handy down the road for guests, beach towels, or kid’s clothes. We also will have storage space in here with shelving and such. Nothing too exciting for this space, just practicality 🙂

Utility

I feel like this room is pretty self-explanatory. The brain of the house will be in this room with the furnace, water softener, electrical box, etc.

Hopefully this gives you a semi-general idea of what we are thinking! Any or all of this can be changed with the exception of a couple of load-bearing walls. Also be sure to check out the Main Floor Layout post!
