Overall floor plan and layout are a really huge deal when considering we plan on this being our forever home. The number one thing that was important to us was having main level living.

This image gives you an overall feel for the layout. Of course, I have an image in my brain about what the whole house will (hopefully) look like when we are done, I am terrible at art, so the only way I can think of describing each room to you is attempting to explain it with words… bear with me. 🙂
Entryway
When you first walk in, the first thing you will see is the lake thanks to some very large windows! We also plan on having some cute built-ins featuring a couple of guest coat closets and a bench for putting on and taking off shoes. That will be located to the right when you first walk in. To the left will be U-shaped stairs leading to the basement. Our current plan is to have railing around the stairs, but that isn’t set in stone yet!
Great Room
This is the only room in the house that will feature a vaulted ceiling and hopefully some beams! It will also have many windows and the best view of the lake. A sitting/living room type of area with a fireplace and a dining area will both be in this space. I have an idea in my head of how it will be laid out… but really most of that will be determined once I can see our stuff in the space! There will also be a door from this room to to the future deck! We aren’t sure where the deck is going to fall land-wise (like how high off the ground) so we are waiting to see the house go up before determining a deck layout.
Master Bedroom
The only bedroom on the main floor is the master. The master is a decent size room, but certainly not huge. I prefer to have larger living areas and smaller bedrooms because way more time is spent in living areas. I’m not a huge shopper and really don’t have a bunch of clothes. Caleb and I both prefer regular closets as opposed to walk in. We will each have about an 8 foot section of closet which is more than enough room for us. We will also have a large window facing the front of the house!
Master Bathroom
The master bathroom will have a smaller window facing the side of the house. It will be fairly small compared to what I’d imagine people think a MASTER BATHROOM should be… but really it just needs to serve it’s purpose. It will have a nice sized single vanity, a toilet (obviously), and a large shower. Neither of us are bath people, so we both preferred a larger shower with no tub.
Den/Study
We currently have a living room that does not have a TV… and I LOVE IT! I am one of those people that is perfectly content sitting with my thoughts. So… I really wanted a separate living space to have a TV on the main floor. The den will serve this purpose. It will have a nice big window facing the lake and basically serve as a TV room as well as Caleb’s future office. This will allow for Caleb to have a nice main-level office space later on down the road.
Half Bathroom/ Powder Room
We had to include a half bathroom for guests! This is honestly one of the things that I am most excited for because we currently only have one bathroom in our house. I am super pumped to have a smaller separate bathroom for company. Also… no shower or tub so less to clean! 🙂
Kitchen
I love to cook and preserve garden veggies, so having a decent sized, functional kitchen is an absolute must. This kitchen will be U-shaped with an approximately 4-foot by 6-foot island in the center. We will also have a walk in pantry to store all the tasty garden stuff that we preserve! The sink will face the lake… which should make doing the dishes at least a little bit more enjoyable. 🙂
Mudroom
Our mudroom will have a door in from the garage. We plan on building built-in lockers for this space and it will have laundry hookups. I am excited because it is near the kitchen so it will be handy for bringing in groceries. This room will also probably have a bench and will have a fairly large window.
Covered Deck (Front)
I am really excited to have a big front deck! Mainly for Christmas decorating, but also for decorating other seasons! I’m really not completely sure how this space is going to look, but I’ve always wanted a porch swing… and I’m kind of thinking this is going to be the perfect place for that!
Can you see my vision? If not, don’t worry. I realize that I am not the best at explaining. I will try to describe the design plans in detail once we get closer to that point in the building process. Once we start building, I will try to keep you posted with frequent update both on the blog and on social media! I’m really excited to see this beauty come to life! 🙂
