1994 Hornet Camper Renovation: Interior Painting

Another camper renovation project: paint! It has always amazed my how much difference some new paint can make to change the look and feel of a space. Originally, there was a lot of paneling, MDF, and wallpaper. Because it’s a fairly old camper, the colors were faded and dirty looking in many areas of the wallpaper.

One of the first things we did was clean and wipe everything down. It wasn’t terribly dirty, but paint and everything just seems to stick better when working with a clean surface. I then painted my first two colors, which were a yellow and a blue color. I ultimately decided they were too bold and went with Joanna Gaines Quaint Cottage for the lower walls (paneling) and Joanna Gaines Locally Sown for the upper walls that were currently wallpaper. I didn’t remove the wallpaper, I painted it! It did need to be glued down in a few spots, but otherwise it painted very well!

A much larger painting project was the cabinets. Honestly, this still isn’t done… we haven’t really touched the bathroom yet, but the kitchen and main cabinets are done! We painted them white… honestly I think we just grabbed one of the semi-gloss white paint cans and used that. We didn’t pick a specific white color. Anyway, it took many coats to make them look how I wanted. But it was worth it! The white brightened the small area up substantially and it’s so much brighter and cleaner feeling in there now! We also got new handles!

I’m so happy with how it is all coming together! I will share more about decorating and homey touches later this summer once we are able to get the camper opened up and cleaned for the season! Like I said, we have many more projects to go… and I need to finish painting… haha. But it’s getting there!
